What is this zine about?
This project is a fanzine that focuses on the Mass Effect franchise. Content will be created by contributors and curated by the moderators based on feedback from the Interest Check.
Who is contributing to the zine? How can I apply?
The application for contributors will open in September. We’ll be announcing everyone who is accepted once the applications close. Applications will be reviewed and scored by the mods. The zine is looking for a variety of styles and work from fandom content creators that display enthusiasm for the franchise and an understanding of the characters and themes of Mass Effect.
Those who are accepted will be notified via email. Anyone who is not selected will also receive an email. There are no plans to give feedback at this time. Will contributors be compensated?
All contributors will receive a free PDF of the zine. The goal is to also provide a free physical copy and full bundle for contributors, which will be based on sales.
Will there be merch?
We will be featuring Mass Effect themed merch, which will be announced as the sale date gets closer.
Are ships allowed?
This zine will not be focusing exclusively on ships, but ships may be included at the contributors’ discretion in accordance with the zine guidelines.
Is there anything not allowed?
Since Mass Effect is a game rated M, there is a potential to have canon-typical violence and sexual content. Therefore, all contributors and customers must be 18 or over. No minors are permitted and will be blocked.
Despite the potential for violence and sexual content that can be found within the game, the zine will not be featuring any extreme violence or sexual themes. You can read more in the Information Guide.Which Shepard is being featured?
That will be up to the contributors to decide for their individual pieces, but the mods anticipate featuring male, female, and non-binary representations of Shepard. Contributors will be asked to keep their physical representations aligned with the default Shepard characters that are featured in game. Minor artistic alterations will be decided between mods and contributor. Gender neutral pronouns will be used for Shepard at the writers’ discretion.
Will there be NSFW content?
The mods anticipate that there may be limited sexual content, similar to what is featured canonically in-game. The main zine will not feature any explicit sexual content, where sexual content is the main focus of the art/writing piece. Depending on the results of the Interest Check, there may be an opportunity to produce a NSFW side-zine as an accompanying add-on to the main zine. More information on the side project will be made available closer to the sale date.
Will there be AUs?
The zine will strive to remain as canon-compliant as possible. While there will be a bit of deviance while filing in the gaps in the story, the zine will not feature AUs or alternate timelines.
How can I get a copy?
The zine will go on sale in February 2022. Make sure you’re following us on Tumblr and Twitter for all the latest updates and to get the link for the store once it opens!
